About the Practice
Skibbereen Medical Centre was first establised as a GP practice in 1971. It was founded in a purpose built building on North Street in Skibbereen town by Dr. Micheal O'Sullivan, Dr. John O'Keeffe and Dr. Michael Boland. It is believed that Skibbereen Medical Centre was the first group practice in the country.
The practice outgrew its original premises in 1998 and Dr. John O'Keeffe, along with partners Dr. Mary O'Neill and Dr. Helen Quirke built a large state-of-the-art Medical Centre on Market Street, which remains the current site of the practice.
Over the years our GP practice team has grown in size, and is now a large team of dedicated staff, with a mix of six male and female GPs along with an experienced and supportive team of four nurses, who collectively provide a wealth of professional expertise in healthcare. The practice also has an in-house physiotherapist, dietitian, and addiction counsellor.
The practice is a training practice; every year the practice provides training to a registrar from the Cork/Kerry GP training scheme. The practice is also affiliated with UCC.
Skibbereen Medical Centre provides care for local nursing homes; Skibbereen Residential Care Centre and Fairfield Nursing Home in Drimoleague.
